The long tail sung by Nathaniel Talbott

by Loren Johnson on Monday, May 28, 2007

Yesterday while trying to get work done in a local cafe (we all try) I got involved in a lively debate covering among other things the Web 2.0 positivism that abounds.

You see, I’m always been a bit of an optimist. I’d rather play the fool then mope around with the Murpheys. Knowing this about me, let me say that I see a great amount of good arising out of the Long Tail of things. I’m much more excited about the diversification and evolution of business practice brought on by the long tail effect than I am in simply the multiplicity of new market opportunities it implies. I think there is a quiet revolution happening right now and I actually think that it’s leading to a little, if not a lot better world.

So before I continue this topic in more depth again in my next entry let me offer you some background reading written by someone who I think shares my particularly optimistic view of the long tail opportunity. See what Nathaniel Talbott has to say:

The Railroad, Then and Now

We had the brief opportunity to work with Nathaniel late last year and he’ll be speaking at this year’s (as he has in all the years past) Rails Conference.
