Social Service on Rails

by Loren Johnson on Wednesday, September 19, 2007

I’m honored to announce that I’ve recently taken-over development on an innovative Rails application developed primarily by Michael Jones of Code in Motion lead by Kara at White Lotus Design. The BenefitFinder application developed for WithinReach in Seattle was designed to greatly simplifies the otherwise duplicitous, overly complicated and time consuming process of determining one’s eligibility and applying for various state and federal assistance programs from basic health insurance, to WIC. At the end of a streamlined and fun to use “wizard” style application the applicant is able to print and mail the full array of necessary forms to enroll in each eligible program.

It’s a refreshing change in perspective to go from thinking on the minutiae of the web 2.0 social opportunity to the less hyped, but equally important opportunity for extending and innovating social service through online means.
